Painted Steel
"Satoria" means tailoring, a tailor's shop in Italian. As a product designer, I frequently visit manufacturers and factories. During one of my visits, I saw a wall of layers and layers of paper templates used during the manufacturing process. I found them fascinating because they highlight the process, not the outcome, and I love the idea of labor and repetition that they evoke.
I thought about how a tailor would use sewing templates for cutting out pieces of fabric into shapes, and then the flat components are given form and structure when sewn together. The lamp explores this very idea, the transformation from "flat" to "fat."
